Bishop Jarrell on the Supreme Court's Same-Sex "Marriage" Decision

His Excellency, Bishop Michael Jarrell, responded today to the Supreme Court's ruling effectively changing the definition of "marriage" to be inclusive of same-sex relationships. Please read and take heart, and remember the eighth beatitude: 

"Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you." (Matt. 5: 10-11)

Remember that our duty as Christians is not just to be disgusted with sin, but to pray for the sinners, even those who make themselves enemies of the Church, that Almighty God might be merciful to us all. We are called to do penance in reparation, not only for our own sins (which are many and grievous), but also for the sins of others. May Almighty God be pleased to accept as reparation for all of our sins and those of the whole world, the sacrifice of the Holy and Most Precious Body and Blood of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. For, as Saint Paul wrote to the Romans:

But God commendeth his charity towards us; because when as yet we were sinners, according to the time, Christ died for us; much more therefore, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. (Rom. 5:8-10)
