Parents and Friends of Saint John of the Cross Academy,

We will have our very first Parent Seminar on Saturday, July 11. It will be held at 1 pm in Conference Room #1 at the South Regional Branch of the Lafayette Public Library. The topic of discussion for this seminar will be the tools of learning that are at the heart of classical education. Our guide will be Dorothy Sayers in her essay entitled "The Lost Tools of Learning," which has long been a staple for those attempting to educate children in accord with the best our tradition has given us.

You can find the essay here
:  http://www.gbt.org/text/sayers.html. Please be sure to read well and come with questions and comments on the text.

As you all know, we consider these Parent Seminars to be an absolutely essential part of our work with SJCA, since the most important formation each child receives is primarily from the parents themselves. In order to truly serve the parents in this endeavor, we have required that at least one parent of all enrolled families attend each seminar. If for some reason you are unable to attend, please let us know. We will try and arrange a second date to meet and have the discussion with you. (This is not ideal, however, since you will miss out on the wisdom to be gained from hearing the insights of your fellow parents.)

We look forward to seeing you all and kicking off what we hope to be a long and fruitful work of helping you to provide the best education possible for your children.

Sancte Johannes Crucis, ora pro nobis!
